Justice Denied For Oscar Grant

Tell me it's not true! Tell me that a white former transit officer was not just convicted of involuntary manslaughter yesterday in the videotaped shooting death of an unarmed black man on an Oakland train platform. Tell me it's not true. Will black men ever get full justice in America?

Yes prosecutors wanted Johannes Mehserle convicted of murdering 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was shot once in the back as he lay face-down. Now we learn that the jury's conviction on the lesser charge as spark a repeat of rioting that followed the shooting on New Year's Day in 2009.

The Washington Post reports the incident is among the most racially polarizing cases in California since four Los Angeles officers were acquitted in 1992 in the beating of Rodney King.

AAPP: It's past time for the Federal government to step into this case.  The Daily Caller.com reports the justice department’s civil rights division will conduct the review along with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco and the FBI, said spokesman Alejandro Miyar, who declined further comment. The investigation will determine whether the case warrants federal prosecution. Federal officials planned to begin their review at the conclusion of the state’s case against Mehserle, who still faces sentencing. The next hearing was set for Aug. 6. It's really time for Eric Holder to step in on this case and file Federal charges. Bring a change of venue to Washington, DC so that bad cop can be convicted by a black jury.

No justice no peace?
