Democrats Approve Deal on Michigan and Florida According to the New York Times, The deal, reached behind closed doors and voted on publicly in a raucous meeting of the Democratic National Committee’s rules panel. Jeers and boos showcased deep party divisions, Democratic Party officials agreed Saturday to seat delegates from the disputed Florida and Michigan primaries at the party’s convention in August but give them only half a vote each, dealing a setback to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

My thoughts after attending NAACP Leadership 500 Summit

There are a lot of great things that happened at the conference. I met some great people and did some real soul searching myself. The NAACP Summit provided me with an opportunity to think differently about how we come together as a people to address issues important to black America. Candidly I must co-sign with my good brother Kevin Myles, NAACP President from Wichita Kansas Branch as he has captured much of my experiences at the summit.

I agree with Kevin Myles the summit was phenomenal. Yes, the speakers were timely and informative and each brought useful information.

I'm a new member of the NAACP and plan to work in good faith with Kevin Myles, Stephanie Brown (the Director of Youth and College) and with the full committed support of Vice Chair Roslyn Brock and the new President and CEO Benjamin T. Jealous to create positive expansion of the NAACP's efforts and methodologies.

Democracy Space Addressing DNC Convention Blogger Black Out

When will blogs reflect America?

Democracy Space writes: The Washington Post has a high-profile story today about how the pool of credentialed state bloggers at the Democratic National Convention is apparently nowhere near as diverse as the party itself. Its coverage follows recent stories by the Dallas Morning News and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The DNC announced its roster of 55 state blogs earlier this month. The Post's Jose Antonio Vargas writes, "To the frustration of black bloggers, the list appears to be mostly white - during a primary race in which black voters turned out in droves in Georgia, South Carolina and Mississippi. And, they add, this pool is for coverage of a convention that might very well see the first African American presidential nominee."

More bloggers will receive credentials to attend the convention, but they will not enjoy some of the perks that the 55 designated state blogs will receive, including better Internet access and seating with their state delegation. Bloggers of color who are questioning the DNC's commitment to diversity include Francis L. Holland, Pam's House Blend, and African American Political Pundit, although some black bloggers note that they did not apply for the state blog credentials since their interests are more national in scope. Moreover, the state blog corps applicants weren't asked for racial identity information, and since relatively few bloggers offer such information on their sites, the DNC probably had little way of knowing which blogs include people of color.

Nonetheless, bloggers are decrying the selection process. At her blog Anderson at Large, Faye Anderson noted the irony that Democratic National Convention Committee CEO Leah Daughtry - the daughter of a noted black clergyman - was quoted in a news release announcing the 55 bloggers saying, "I'm excited about the roles these bloggers will have in engaging an even broader, more diverse base of people from around the country in conversations not only about the Convention, but about the future of our nation." Anderson replied: "Black bloggers do not share Daughtry’s excitement. They are outraged over the lack of diversity."

It's true that the political blogosphere tends to be dominated by white men; among the biggest blogs, the most notable exceptions are Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, a Latino who oversees the popular progressive blog Daily Kos, and conservative Michelle Malkin, who is of Filipino heritage. But growing numbers of bloggers are people of color; a recent National Newspaper Publishers Association story reported that there are now 900 identified black-owned blogs, up from 75 in September 2007. It's not surprising that bloggers of all races are calling out the Democratic Party's claim to represent America's diversity if that commitment isn't adequately demonstrated in its credentialed convention blogs.

International blogger Francis L. Holland is on the case regarding what he terms the Jim Crowing of black bloggers by the DNC.

AAPP: "I guess the DNC wants black bloggers to go along with their 'fairy tales of inclusion' and follow the DNC's Yellow Brick Road."

Over the past week, Aaron Myers, Director of Online Communications for the 2008 Democratic National Convention Committee, contacted Pam Spaulding (of the AfroSpear's PamsHouseBlend blog) and me, seeking to "clarify" the details of the new Democratic National Convention floor blogging [apartheid] system. My response to Aaron is here. (I requested specific demographic information about the bloggers to be credentialed and, although Aaron at first expressed an urgent desire to talk with me, he did not respond to my request for information by e-mail and did not call as promised.) At least one other member of the AfroSpear had the same experience with Aaron Myers over the weekend.

However, on Saturday, Aaron called Pam Spaulding and provided more information verbally, indicating that the discrimination and that the DNC intends to institute and practice in Denver (and perhaps forever thereafter) is far more pernicious, intentional and significant than was previously known. Pam says,

I was contacted by Aaron Myers, the director of online communications for the 2008 Democratic National Convention Committee, and spoke with him a couple of days ago to ask him about the credentialing process, the details in level of access, and some logistics, in an effort to get some information on the record. First, the term "floor blog, the DNC admits, is almost synonymous with "white blog", since virtually all of the 55 DNC-selected "state blogs", save one or two, perhaps, will be white blogs. The DNC does not deny, but instead confirms, that virtually all of the blogs credentialed for the floor are white blogs.



The DNC refuses to release exact demographic data, claiming that it does not know the skin colors of the blogs that will be required to submit to extensive background checks as a condition of their attendance, and with whom the DNC has held conference calls as well as other formal and informal contacts.

However, the DNC says it does somehow know the skin colors of the blogs to be accredited as pool blogs, at least sufficient to assure members of the AfroSpear and afrosphere that the pool blogs credentialed will be more integrated. It is not yet known how or why the DNC know does not know the skin colors of the blogs the DNC accredited first, but DOES know the skin colors of the blogs that have not been accredited yet.

U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton Staying In Race Just In Case - Is She Involved In subliminal messaging RFK # 2

Have you all been checking out how it's now cool for news outlet talking heads to laugh about the assassination of a presidential candidate. Yes, this assassination stuff - started by Hillary Clinton it's getting real ugly. You know what I'm talking about, her sending out a subliminal message, designed to pass below the normal limits of perception. unrecognizable by white America's conscious mind, but understood by the conscious mind of black America. No folks Hillary's RFK comment was not a merely making a 'careless' comment, her message was calculated.

As reported in the NY Times, Clinton Could Face an Uneasy Return to the Senate.

AAPP: And well she should receive an uneasy return. Too bad black politicians don't get it.

There is talk of a vice-presidential slot for Clinton, but guess what that prospect hopefully won't happen after Clinton’s remark last week about the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, which highlighted fears about Mr. Obama’s safety. Candidly this AAPP feels she needs to resign the Senate. One has to wonder why blacks on the CBC are not calling for her resignation ? Jimmy Carter seems to be showing more common sense than the Congressional Black Caucus. Black folks should be making her uncomfortable.

Now as reported by CNN we learn the Bill Clinton is at it again, this time throwing more garbage out into the Democratic primary season saying there is a 'Cover up' hiding Hillary Clinton's chances. Whatever Bill Clinton, Whatever!

NAACP - A Second Look - Part I

I'm back home after being in Arizona for the NAACP Leadership 500 Summit as a guest of my new best friend brother Kevin Miles, Branch President of the Wichita Branch of the NAACP, along with Ms. Roslyn McCallister Brock, Vice Chair of the National NAACP National Board. Who is also my new best friend.

My thoughts before attending NAACP Leadership 500 Summit

The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. I've written previously that I'm not sure over the past 30 years the NAACP has had a realistic Strategic Plan to implement it's mission, while including black folks from the hood to the board room in the NAACP.

For years the NAACP has done a reasonable job at including the talented 10th, but has failed to include the poor. For some time I like a majority of black Americans have been concerned with the decline of the organization. For some time the NAACP has been wresting on its success in gaining support for Anti-Lynching Bill, Voting Rights, Brown V Board of Education and other issues of 50 years ago.

The NAACP has in my humble opinion failed to maintain its status as a champion of social justice. Yes it fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans would be heard, but it is an organization that has not developed a concrete outreach effort to engage black folks at a grassroots level to become members of the NAACP so that we as black Americans can work from all classes of black America to truly save lives and change many negative aspects of black American society in the 21st century. I attended the Summit to learn for myself if the NAACP is still stuck in a mind-set that worked 50 years ago but makes little sense today.

The Good, The Bad and Ugly


The Good

The Leadership 500 Summit is billed as a unique opportunity to transform the NAACP brand into action for a new generation of civil rights activists.

When I arrived at Leadership 500 Summit I was greeted by Kevin Myles, and was immediately introduced to NAACP National Board of Directors Vice Chairwoman Roslyn M. Brock. OK, I must say I was surprised that the Vice President is actually so young. I was happy to see that a woman is in the V Chair position. I had an opportunity to meet with her throughout the summit. V. Chair Brock is truly a great visionary who is preparing for the road ahead.

Ms. Brock believes "leaders are not born; they’re developed either because of opportunity or necessity,”and as conceiver of the summit she is prepared to build and broaden NAACP membership and build effective leadership through careful thought, consideration and strategic action. Ms. Brock assured me that she is eager to partner with the afrospear and other black bloggers who are prepared to unite around common interest. I'm eager to work with Ms. Brock and the staff of the NAACP to make that happen. I've even become a new dues paying member.

Election o8, Hillary's RFK Comment Merely 'Careless' or Calculated?

Alec MacGillis has an article in The Washington Post that talks to the issue of Hillary Clinton's RFK assassination comments and Barack Obama's response. Alec writes that, Barack Obama spoke publicly today for the first time about Hillary Clinton's invocation of Robert F. Kennedy's assassination, telling a Puerto Rico radio station that he took Clinton's word that she meant no harm.

"I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make, and I think that is what happened here," he said in an interview with Radio ISLA. "Senator Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it, and I will take her at her word on that."

AAPP: What the hell was Hillary thinking when she said, "We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California." Well as Alec noted in the article, speaking to reporters yesterday, Clinton sought to clarify the comment.

"Earlier today I was discussing the Democratic primary history, and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns that both my husband and Senator Kennedy waged in California in June 1992 and 1968, and I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nomination primary contests that go into June. That's a historic fact." she said. "The Kennedys have been much on my mind the last days because of Senator [Edward] Kennedy, and I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation, and particularly for the Kennedy family, was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever."

AAPP: OK so now we know it is not the first time, as reported in The Washington Post there have been "several previous instances in the past three months when Clinton referred to Robert Kennedy's assassination in discussing her decision to stay in the race for the duration." It appears that Hillary Clinton is truly a calculating woman who would rather see Obama end up like RFK.

Hillary creating a level of fear - Did Hillary Just Call for the Assassination of Barack Obama?

What is so disgusting Hillary is probably aware (as reported by Anne E. Kornblut), "a Washington Post-ABC News poll taken in March, nearly six in 10 Americans said they were worried that someone might try to harm Obama (Ill.) if he were the nominee -- more than double the percentage who said they were worried about the same for Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the presumptive Republican nominee."

Get this, Among African Americans, the concern was even greater: More than eight in 10 said they would be worried about Obama's safety, including 55 percent who said they would be "very concerned" (20 percent of whites said they would have that level of fear)."

AAPP: Hey get this I'm not the only blogger concerned about Hillary's madness. Check out the post by,Electronic Village, Francis L. Come on folks, we all know the underlying thought behind Hillary's comments. Hillary was calling out every bigoted redneck, every White Citizens Council member, every KKK member, every Aryan Nation member to do what? Francis L. Holland sees it very clear. Did Hillary Just Call for the Assassination of Barack Obama?

This woman makes AAPP sick, she does not deserve to be in the running for anything. How can she run the United States government when she cannot control her tongue with all this assassination talk, and she surely had problems controlling her man in the White House. Would she ever be able to control him if considered for the Vice Presidential role? I think that Obama would be a fool to select her as a VP running mate. He would have to have food tasters around him 24/7 as he surely could not trust her.

Election 08, Democratic Natiional Convention, Black Blogger Segregation

Just in case you have not heard the DNC has invited Atty Francis L. Holland to discuss black bloggers complaint regarding the exclusion of Black, Latino and Native American Blogs from Democratic National Convention Floor Credentials.



Like the attorney that he is, Francis L. Holland is asking the DNC for specific information that
will help him prepare for discussions with the DNC including:

(1) the names, owners and URL's of all Black and Latino owned-and-operated blogs, for each group, that will be seated on the floor;

(2) the percentage of all floor credentialed blogs that will be (a) Black, and (b) Latino owned-and-operated, for each group;

(3) the names, owners and URL's of all general pool Black and Latino owned-and-operated blogs, for each group;

(4) the percentage of all general pool credentialed blogs that will be (a) Black, and (b) Latino owned-and-operated, for each group;

AAPP: it will be interesting to see if the DNC provides the information Attorney Francis L. Holland's is asking for. It's time for the DNC to stop fighting black bloggers, we are not the enemy.



I know Francis Holland's is an expert and good faith Attorney, I can only hope that the DNC moves forward to address the issues involving black, Latino and Native American blogger segregation. We need to be unified to win against McCain in the fall.

Another View of the NAACP - My Second Take

Freedom is not free

OK, I’m here at the NAACP Leadership 500 Summit. I was invited to attend the summit by Kevin Myles, Branch President of the Wichita Branch of the NAACP, along with Ms. Roslyn McCallister Brock, Vice Chair of the National NAACP National Board.

As you may know, I have written previously about the NAACP being a shadow of it's past, and as a former active member of the Boston Branch of the NAACP back in the 70’s, I've not been feelin the NAACP for many a year.

Yet, I will tell you, a weekend can change even this grown man's thinking. Yes I traveled to the conference, paying for full airfare (over 5 bills) to the NAACP event. No I'm not ready to sing Kumbyya with the NAACP, but I did take out a membership, I've always had big respect for Kevin Myles, and I now have big respect for the youthful, energetic, talented, focused, and highly intelligent V. chair of the NAACP Ms. Roslyn McCallister Brock.

I had planned to LIVE blog at the event, but because of technology challenges at this meeting location (mountains blocking internet access with some conference areas) I'm not able to LIVE blog. So... for the next 5 days I plan to report on my experience here at the NAACP 500. Stay tuned here on this blog as I report on "the good, the bad, and the ugly" that I witnessed at the NAACP Leadership 500 Summit as the group of men and women from the age of 30-50 shared best practices, new ideas and fresh perspectives on how the NAACP can recruit, train, and retain a new generation of civil rights advocates to address the many critical issues impacting black and other Americans.

DNC and Black Bloggers Need A Reasonable Resolution

Fellow blogger, Villager is following and reporting on how the Lack of Diversity in DemConvention State Blogger Corps Angers Afrosphere

He writes, "The Democratic Party has a unique opportunity in November to reclaim the White House as well as working majorities in both the US Senate and House of Representatives in the 2008 election cycle." Every imaginable wind is blowing in their direction --> economy, Iraq war, unemployment rate, John Hagee, gas prices, food prices, George W. Bush and so on.

However, instead of rising proudly and confidently towards this new political nirvana ... we see the Democrats shoot themselves in the foot. Displaying a remarkable sense of insensitivity and arrogance, the Democratic Party recently announced state blog credentials to cover the national convention in Denver will be given to 55 white-only state blogs.

Hillary Clinton is fanning the flames of assassination with hysteria

AAPP: Not only has the Georgia color aroused bigots come out with their controversial front page cover, now Hillary Clinton is fanning the flames of assassination. To this AAPP Obama should watch out for the Clinton's. Words of advise for Obama, as you begin your running-mate Search don't even think about having her as a running mate, that woman would never protect you, in fact you would have to worry about her everyday of your presidency. OK your kidding me, so Hillary Clinton is staying in the race because Obama might be assassinated like Robert Kennedy?

Check out the Washington Post article by By Anne E. Kornblut, that notes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton invoked the memory of slain Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy as she explained her persistence in the Democratic race on Friday, saying that although the media and the Barack Obama campaign have been trying to usher her from the race, "historically, that makes no sense."

"We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," Clinton said in a meeting with the editorial board of the Argus Leader, a newspaper in South Dakota.

Her advisers later said she was using the historical reference to note that campaigns have stretched until the summer before, not to suggest that Obama might be assassinated. In the previous sentence, she had also noted that her husband's campaign in 1992 lasted until June as well.

But in a campaign in which voters have voiced concerns about the safety of the first African American front-runner in history, it was a surprising choice of words by Clinton, whose best hope for seizing the nomination now would be a major setback for Obama. Clinton has already faced harsh criticism for allegedly exacerbating racial divisions in the nominating process.

"Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Color Divide - Democratic National Convention and black bloggers

I know Native Americans and the Angry Indian must be wondering why Native Americans seem to be excluded by the DNC as well.

Racial make-up of Democratic convention bloggers criticized

AUSTIN — Democrats consider affirmative action a cornerstone of their national agenda, but some minority bloggers say the party isn’t practicing what it preaches.

Last week, the national Democratic Party announced that 55 online writers had been chosen for the “State Blogger Corps,” to cover the convention in Denver in September.

But some members of the self-titled “afrosphere” — blogs written or published by African Americans — are angry that the “State Blogger Corps” appears to be mostly white, particularly since the party appears poise to nominate a black candidate, Barack Obama, for president.

“OK, folks, black bloggers to the back of the bus,” read the headline on the African American Political Pundit blog.

Party leaders said the factors in determining state bloggers were readership, Internet ratings and focus on local and state politics, not race. The Texas representative, the Burnt Orange Report, has several writers, including at least one Hispanic contributor.

A second round of blog credentials will be announced before the end of the month, party leaders said, and minority bloggers will be purposely included in that selection.

It’s unclear exactly how many of the state bloggers are white and how many are minorities because the bloggers weren’t required to identify their race when they applied.

But the blogs don’t appear to be self-identified as written or owned by African Americans, as opposed to blogs like the African American Political Pundit or attorney Francis L. Holland’s numerous blogs, which feature his picture. More HERE
