Up to Obama to turn lead into N.Y. win
The New York Daily News' poll suggests that once-overwhelming support for Hillary Clinton from black voters, even on her home turf, can be captured by Barack Obama if he plays his cards right. In a race that has already seen record turnout and last-minute voter swings, that's cause for concern to Team Clinton.
Hillary knows her smashing success in New Hampshire, aided by a last-minute surge of supporters, reflects a level of voter volatility that makes the race unpredictable. That X-factor worked for her in New Hampshire; it could backfire in New York.
As an incumbent, Hillary can't be sleeping well knowing that a quarter of New York Dems told our pollster that they changed their mind about who to support in the last month, with 21% saying they still haven't made up their minds.
The fact that a majority of black New Yorkers have switched from Clinton to Obama is even worse news for the former First Lady, since unusually strong turnout by black voters could lead to a freakish, New Hampshire-style surprise on Primary Day. More HERE
