Carson Coming to Captiol Hill, Andre Carson,

Hat Tip: BET/Pamela On Politics

Another Carson Coming to Captiol Hill

Andre Carson By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer

Black lawmakers will be welcoming a familiar face to Washington when the grandson of the late Indiana congresswoman Julia Carson (D) joins their ranks. The victory will keep the seat on the Democratic side of the aisle and adds another super delegate to the presidential mix.

Andre Carson, 33, won the seat Tuesday in a special election beating out his Republican opponent, state Rep. John Elrod. Carson won the contest with about 55 percent of the vote to Elrod’s 44 percent.

Carson, the second Muslim ever elected to Congress, will represent the Indianapolis district for the remaining 10 months of his grandmother’s term. ‘Miss Julia” as she was affectingly called by her constituents died December 15 of cancer. More HERE

AAPP: I'm hopeful that this new house member will do a great job the the people of his district and Americans as a whole. I wish him well.

Barack Obama, Michael Savage and Media Matters

Neanderthal Michael Savage?

AAPP: Well it's obvious that one Neanderthal savage just does not get it. As reported by Media Matters, highly regarded radio bigot Michael Savage stated of Sen. Barack Obama: "I think he was hand-picked by some very powerful forces both within and outside the United State of America to drag this country into a hell that it has not seen since the Civil War of the middle of the 19th century." it's time to take action against bigots like Michael Savage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Media Matters reports, "On the March 13 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage stated of Sen. Barack Obama: "I think he was hand-picked by some very powerful forces both within and outside the United State of America to drag this country into a hell that it has not seen since the Civil War of the middle of the 19th century." Savage was discussing controversial statements by Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, the recently retired pastor of Obama's church, when he made the comments.

In the past, Savage has said of Obama, "We have a right to know if he's a so-called friendly Muslim or one who aspires to more radical teachings." He has also referred to Obama as "Barack Madrassas Obama," and falsely claimed that he was "indoctrinated" in a "Muslim madrassa in Indonesia."

Talk Radio Network, which syndicates Savage's show, says that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. The Savage Nation reaches more than 8 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, making it one of the most listened-to talk radio shows in the nation, behind only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show.

From the March 13 edition of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:

SAVAGE: And I'm warning you that Barack Obama's pastor is the soul of Barack Obama's movement. And if you want a man who says not "God bless America," but "God damn America," if you want a man who takes the side of the imperial Japanese army, an army that killed not only hundreds of thousands in the Bataan Death March, but hundreds of thousand of Koreans, an army that operated on people while they were alive in Manchuria, a man who takes the side, in essence, of the Japanese Nazis of World War II, if you want a man who takes the side, in essence, of the Hitlers of the world, then you've got it in Barack Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, of the Trinity United Church of Christ.

And I'm warning you here -- I am sitting here and warning you that Barack Obama himself -- I don't know whether he's good, bad or indifferent -- I think he's just an ordinary apparatchik of the Democrat machine in Chicago, personally. I don't think he's particularly smart; I don't think he's particularly stupid. I think he was hand-picked by some very powerful forces both within and outside the United States of America to drag this country into a hell that it has not seen since the Civil War of the middle of the 19th century.

And I warn you, ladies and gentlemen, what I'm playing for you is not edited speech, it is not corrected speech, it is not invented speech, it is unadulterated speech of the lowest order, and it's not coming from a conservative -- it's coming from a liberal, like yourself. And so, in case you missed it, I'm gonna play it all day. I suggest you call a few of your friends. If you're in a synagogue, give a call to your rabbi who has a Barack Obama on his lawn. Let us say you're a church-goer and a white person, and you think, "Hey, the Messiah has arrived! Obama's gonna lead us and save us!" I want you to call a few members of your church to listen to where he's gonna lead you and what he's gonna say, because this man, by the way, has not been disconnected from Obama. Why, he makes Louis Farrakhan sound like a nice man.

According to an account in the New York Times, Savage broadcasts his show out of three "virtual safe houses" -- whose location he will not reveal -- and "is licensed to carry a pistol and does so," out of fears for his life. His program reaches an estimated eight million listeners a week on nearly 400 stations.

Hillary, Race Matters and Obama

Rumor Is, Hillary is Pissed! She knows Barack Obama turned controversy into opportunity.

Obama
's A More Perfect Union Speech on race may have nailed him the Presidency!

As Michael Crowley of The New Republic wrote: Barack Obama gave a brilliant, inspiring, intellectually supple speech--but one that may have done little to solve his festering problem with working class white Americans.

What Obama said from the lectern in Pennsylvania sounded like what you'd expect him to say, in less polished form, in a frank scotch-on-the-rocks conversation. I especially admired his keen analysis of how the media treats "race only as spectacle--as we did in the OJ trial--or in the wake of tragedy, as we did in the aftermath of Katrina--or as fodder for the nightly news." That's one reason it's sure to be a hit with elite commentators, not to mention racially super-enlightened liberal Democratic primary voters. More HERE

AAPP: I must admit Michael Crowley was right when he said:

"But those weren't the people Obama needed to reach today. His target audience was working class white voters--Reagan Democrats with a historic tendency to let racial prejudice and fear override their other social and economic interests, and whose view of Obama the Jeremiah Wright controversy threaten to permanently warp. That's one reason Obama sounded a striking note of sympathy for racial resentment within white America:

"Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism."

"Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze--a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many. And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns--this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding."

It will be an epic triumph when American politics puts an end to those distractions. The question is whether a black man can accomplish this. One of Bill Clinton's greatest political assets (before this campaign) was his ability to be a Nixon-in-China when it came to race; his successful mid-90s defense of affirmative action is a perfect example.

For Obama, the task is far more complicated. Perhaps I'm too cynical, but I suspect the speech may fail to meet its goal of assuaging white America in two ways.

AAPP: Yes Michael Crowley your too cynical. Hillary Clinton is cynical too.

As I said, Rumor Is, Hillary is Pissed!

Obama's speech on race may have nailed him the Presidency!

I'm thankful that many people understand how this was a Big, Big, Really Big Obama Speech.

New Gov. Old Extramarital Affairs

Paterson
At a news conference in Albany, Gov. David A. Paterson discussed marital infidelities with his wife, Michelle Paige Paterson, by his side. (Photo: Nathaniel Brooks for The New York Times)

AAPP says: Well, well, the reporters are looking for dirt on the first black Governor of N.Y. I guess he received no honeymoon period. So he came out with Old Extramarital Affairs- stuff before others could.

Hundreds of reporters, including NY Times reporter Sewell Chan are writing articles regarding the new NY Governor and his Extramarital Affairs.

As if the folks from New York don't have enough crap to deal with. Here comes some more garbage. after dealing with Eliot Spitzer's high-priced prostitution ring, now the press had to dig into Paterson’s love life. The NY Times reports, "Mr. Paterson, 53, expressed regret for past mistakes but said he was coming forward to clear the air and avoid any “innuendo” or speculation that might arise. “I didn’t break the law,” he said, toward the end of his news conference, at the State Capitol in Albany. “I didn’t violate an oath. I didn’t use knowingly campaign funds. I didn’t use state funds at all. I know that. I don’t think institutionally there were any violations here. However, the public wants to know who its elected officials are, and sometimes, even though you are human and you are someone that just has feelings and has faults, there comes a time, perhaps, when you have to tell the public.”

There is more! John Riley says:

capitol318.jpg

Early reports out of Albany indicate that Gov. Paterson, at his news conference, says he was actually involved with more than one woman, including someone who was on the state payroll.

"I was involved with someone on the state payroll...An employee I may have inherited. This was known to my wife."

Helpfully, however, Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno have preemptively cleared him, without waiting for actual facts,

Bruno: “I think his personal life is his personal life.”

Silver: "It’s not an uncommon occurence in people’s lives when marriages are failing. This is how they worked it out....I think it’s a media story, depending on how you play it, and that’s it, and the story should be over.”

In Albany, of course, it's pretty predictable that mere adultery would be waved off. Too many of those buns have been toasted by too many players for anyone to make a fuss, state payroll or not. The other point is to contrast it with Spitzer.

Update: Apparently, Paterson says there was more than one woman on the state payroll, never anyone he supervised but one person whom he has now inherited in the governor's office.

Get this,
Clinton Praised Paterson at Governor’s Swearing-In Ceremony. Let's see how long it is before Hillary makes some type of color aroused comment about him.

Thoughts anyone?

Concede Now Hillary

A majority of Democratic voters say it would be unfair for Hillary Rodham Clinton to win the presidential nomination through the support of "super delegates" if she lags among the convention delegates elected in primaries and caucuses, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll.

I agree with Villager, Francis Holland, Yobachi Boswell, PurpleZoe, and other members of the
Afrosphere Action Coalition who are now seeking to enlist bloggers from around the nation to participate in the Day of Blogging For Voter Justice that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 25.

There appears to be a growing consensus and drumbeats across America and the blogosphere that we need a nominee.

I agree with MissLaura when she wrote, "It's by now well established that, with a lead in delegates, popular vote, and number of states won, Barack Obama's path to nomination is a lot easier than Clinton's. But, with Clinton having decided to stay in the race despite Obama's difficult-to-surmount lead, it looks like the fight could continue over months. Until we have a nominee, it's difficult for independent expenditure campaigns to gear up in support of the nominee. And since Clinton's clearest path to the nomination would be to destroy Obama, and given the recent race-baiting coming from people associated with the Clinton campaign, a continuing nomination battle could become poisonous very quickly.

Not only could the race-baiting and the dissing of states that voted for Obama create a civil war in the party, a superdelegate-driven Clinton nomination could kill her chances in the general. "

According to a USA Today/Gallup poll:

A majority of Democratic voters say it would be unfair for Hillary Rodham Clinton to win the presidential nomination through the support of "super delegates" if she lags among the convention delegates elected in primaries and caucuses, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll.

If that happens, one in five say they wouldn't vote for the New York senator in the general election.

The findings in the survey, taken Friday through Sunday, underscore some of the perils ahead for Democrats as the closely fought nomination battle between Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama continues.

By 55%-37%, Democrats and independents who "lean" Democratic say an outcome in which Clinton lost among pledged delegates but prevailed with the help of super delegates would be "flawed" and unfair" — including 77% of Obama supporters and 28% of Clinton supporters.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright comments are not uncommon in many churches

By David Edwards and Chris Tackett

Michele Norris, host of NPR's All Things Considered, told a panel of guests on Meet the Press that the tone used by Obama's former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, is not uncommon in many churches. Norris noted that many Americans find some agreement with Rev. Wright's sermons. She said, "When Jeremiah Wright makes these statements the Amen chorus in that church was very loud. His words resonate with a large number of African Americans and the blunt language that he used makes people uncomfortable. You know, when he talks about America's inglorious record on race. And yet, many people find something that they relate to in those words." Another panelist, David Broder of The Washington Post, said "[Rev. Wright's] tone seems so far removed from the tone that Obama has tried to strike, not just in this campaign, but throughout his political career, that it raises the question in my mind, what was it about Reverend Wright that attracted Obama when he had as a newcomer to Chicago he had any number of churches or pastors to go to?"Norris responded by saying, "You're talking about a tone and not his words. The sort of 'fire from the pulpit' is not something that is unusual in an African-American church. That is something -- in fact in many churches in america." She continued, "It's not all together different from what many people are hearing at this moment in churches all across America."

The exchange can be seen below:

Transcript via closed captions:: david broader, talk about events happening, you had the situation with geraldine ferraro that i talked with nita lowey and bill bradley with reverend jeremiah wright, tony rezko, the fund-raiser for barack obama. on friday, senator obama went to "chicago tribune" and chicago sun times and sat down with both editorial boards and reporters for an hour and a half at each place and went through his relationship and the money he raised. here's one of the headlines, "obama says rezko played a bigger fund-raiser role." with reporters and editors obama disclosed rezko raised more for obama's earlier political campaigns than known, gathering as much as $250,000 for the three offices he sought, state senate, house of representatives and senator. obama collaborated on previous statements about his private real estate transactions with rezko saying they were not mistakes of judgment because rezko was under a grand jury investigation, mistake was not just engaging in the transaction with tony rezko because he was having legal problems, the mistake because he was a contributor and somebody who was involved in politics. david broader, does that issue create difficulty for barack obama? :: i think it's not a big issue at this point. but this trial is in the very early stages and we don't know what will come out. it appears that mr. rezko's real connections were down in springfield with governor rather than with obama, but the one thing we know for sure, tim, is that between now and the first day of the democratic convention, there will be events and they will impact on these candidates. :: we have bill bradley calling for bill clinton to release the list of $500 million in contributions to his library and foundation. the clinton tax returns post-presidency, which will be some significant income, and the archives information about hillary clinton's role in the clinton white house. all that might be fertile ground for journalists, perhaps for voters. :: this is a campaign that's not about policy. Will McCain Specifically ‘Repudiate’ Hagee Slavery Auction and Anti-Gay Statements?

McCain Supporter In Love with Slavery!

Yes, as reported by Oliver Willis McCain Supporter John Hagee Promoted "Slave Sale"and Francis L. Holland, Top McCain Ally Held "Slave Auction" as School Fundraiser

mccain_hageeweb.jpg

The folks at Think Progress have also been following McCain and his buddy (pictured above). They are asking the same questions that many bloggers are asking, Will McCain Specifically ‘Repudiate’ Hagee? or will it be A Tale Of Two Endorsements: Farrakhan vs. Hagee.

In February, when controversial Pastor John Hagee endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), he called the senator “a man of principle” who “does not stand boldly on both sides of any issue.” But since then, McCain has sought to have it both ways by both distancing himself from Hagee’s divisive record while maintaining the Pastor’s political support.

Yesterday, McCain played the game again on Bill Bennett’s radio show, where he said, “I repudiate any comments that are anti-Semitic or anti-Catholic, racist, any other.” But then added, in Hagee’s defense, that the pastor “said that his words were taken out of context“:

I will say that he said that his words were taken out of context, he defends his position. I hope that maybe you’d give him a chance to respond. He says he has never been anti-Catholic, but I repudiate the words that create that impression.

As ThinkProgress noted yesterday, context does not change the indefensible nature of Hagee’s most divisive comments, such as his belief that “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans” for hosting a gay pride parade. McCain has said that he “repudiates” Hagee’s words “that are anti-Semitic or anti-Catholic, racist, any other,” but he has never specifically criticized Hagee’s blatantly anti-gay rhetoric. AAPP: I guess bloggers are right, John McCain is “Honored” To Receive Endorsement From Bigot.

Iraq 5 Years Later, Bush' Surge Has Made Security Situation Worse

5 Years Later

saddams.jpg

As reported by the great folks at Think Progress, This week marks the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion in Iraq. While security has improved, there are growing concerns by both Iraqis and U.S. military officials that it will rise again in the near future. As has been widely noted, this lull in violence has not led to political progress. It also hasn’t led to an increase in services in Iraqis’ everyday lives.

McClatchy reports on these “worms in the water” five years after “liberation”:

To them, the real crime is that five years after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, they still swelter in the summer and freeze in the winter because of a lack of electricity. Government rations are inevitably late, incomplete or expired. Garbage piles up for days, sometimes weeks, emanating toxic fumes.

The list goes on: black-market fuel, phone bills for land lines that haven’t worked in years, education and health-care systems degraded by the flight of thousands of Iraq’s best teachers and doctors. […]

In some poor areas of Baghdad, militias or Iranian-backed charities have become the main source of propane tanks, food staples, garbage collection and other services that the government should provide.

A new poll for BBC, ABC, ARD and NHK finds that a majority of Iraqis think their lives are good, “more than at any time in the last three years.” Yet at the same time, 72 percent oppose the presence of coalition forces in Iraq and 61 percent believe that these troops are making the security situation worse. Additionally, 53 percent say that Bush’s “surge” has “made overall security worse, not better,” and a plurality want foreign forces to leave immediately.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Under Fire - Time For Mayor To Move On

AAPP says: With a new probe of stripper party at Detroit mayor's mansion and reports that the Detroit mayor's wife hit dancer is enough for the people of Detriot to say, Good Bye Mr. Mayor.

It looks like Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick days are numbered as mayor of Detroit. A retired Detroit Police Department clerk said an exotic dancer whose murder remains unsolved filed a police report in 2002, wanting to press charges against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's wife for allegedly beating the stripper during a party at the Manoogian Mansion.

Tamara Greene

Mike Wilkinson of the The Detroit News reports The claim, made Monday in a federal court filing, alleges that Tamara Greene was sent to the hospital after Carlita Kilpatrick walked in, saw Greene touching the mayor and then beat Greene "with a wooden object."

As reported by Darryl Fears of the Washington Post, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has lost credibility. The calls for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's resignation are growing louder as some of Michigan's most powerful public officials described the mayor's use of the N-word during his recent State of the City speech as a new low.

Detroit mayor strippers.jpg

In the Tuesday speech, Kilpatrick (D) said he is being called the racial pejorative more than ever since recently disclosed text messages indicated an affair between the mayor and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, as well as possible financial wrongdoing involving tens of millions of dollars. Kilpatrick also ripped City Council President Ken Cockrel Jr., who joined several council members in defying tradition by refusing to join the mayor onstage.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's use of the N-Word in a recent speech adds to his political headaches.
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick
(By Carlos Osorio -- Associated Press)

Kilpatrick, who is African American, defended his use of the word through his media relations staff, saying he wanted people to know the harshness of the letters, including "death threats," he has received.

But in a meeting on the morning after the speech, Detroit industrialist Dave Bing and two of Kilpatrick's most powerful business allies told him that his words had hurt Detroit and that he was losing credibility. Read More HERE

The New Organizing Institutes' Blogger Summit.

Ok, I'm back after a long 45 minute drive :- ) to Washington, DC, and a great weekend at the New Organizing Institutes' Blogger Summit. I have to say, the folks at The New Organizing Institute know how to put on a successful blogger conference. They also worked smart and hard to be as inclusive as possible (with a limited budget and space) to bring together a diverse group of bloggers from across America. the YearlyKos and MYDD could learn a lot about pro-active outreach and inclusion from the New Organizing Institute. it was truly a bloggers conference best practice.

The Afrospear was well represented at the weekend event with some of the most engaging and well respected black bloggers on the web, including some sharp, fine, witty, intelligent, and what us old schoolers call, seriously 'deep' and powerful black women, like sister, Pam Spaulding from Pam's House Blend, and another powerful Citizen Journalist, Faye Anderson of Anderson at Large. There were also some 'deep,' smooth, articulate, and engaging brothers like - Barantunde, a great blogger and comic from Jack and Jill Politics, Gabriel from the Color of Change - classy dresser, Brandon Q, from The Super Spade - The Man with the Plan, Brother Field Negro, along with another deep and powerful brother, Kevin Myles, president of the Wichita Branch of the NAACP. Meeting all of these bloggers in one location was fantastic! I can't wait for the Blogging While Brown Conference. All of these brothers and sisters have it going on. They are no joke. They know there stuff.

I'm with the Field on Gabrielle from Color of Change, he is a dead ringer for Adrian
(Vince) from Entourage. On another note, Check out brother Barantunde comedy, this brotha is multi-talented.

Hey but I can't forget my new Pinto driving friend (LOL), and fellow blogger, Lola, from the Blog, Whatever Lola Wants who joined in for a festive time. PS: Nice car Lola, watch out for that glass!

Tomorrow I plan to blog about The
New Organizing Institutes' Blogger Summit in greater detail. I must say, I met some great bloggers of all background and interest. The event provided me with a new learning curve that I would like to share with you. So... stay tuned, and stop back by. There are some great bloggers out there who are eager and willing to build new relationships with the black blogging community. Including our Latino and I will also talk about that tomorrow as well.

Campaign 2008: Petition calls For Senator Hillary Clinton To Concede Defeat

AAPP: There is now an Online Petition to call for Hillary Clinton concede defeat. Here is what the petition has to say:

To: Senator Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee

Senator Hillary Clinton Must Concede Defeat and Support the Democratic Presidential Ticket

The signatories to this statement urge that Senator Hillary Clinton must concede defeat in her quest for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination and must support the Democratic ticket.

Wherefore:

(1) The Democratic Party base has spoken. The delegate count shows that Senator Hillary Clinton cannot win the nomination on the strength of earned delegates, based on the will of the voters.

(2) Mrs. Clinton's political attacks upon Senator Barack Obama have increasingly appealed to and sought to increase resentment against others based on the color of their skin.

(3) This divisiveness is regrettable because, via the presidential candidacy of Senator Obama, the vast majority of African-Americans stand united with millions of white Americans and Americans of all colors, genders, ethnicities and religious backgrounds, erasing divisions to implement a program of Democratic change.

(4) It appears that Mrs. Clinton is about to shatter this historic unity.

(5) We therefore call on Mrs. Clinton to face the reality of the earned delegates count, concede defeat, and thereby contribute to healing a wound which is opening and continues to widen.

(6) Mrs. Clinton must wholeheartedly support the winner of the nomination, who has earned the most delegates, and devote herself honestly and enthusiastically to defeating Republican electoral hopes in 2008, not attacking Democratic politicians and Democratic constituencies.

(7) Should the Democratic Party leadership nullify the people's votes by giving Mrs. Clinton the nomination, despite the popular will as represented by earned delegates, we would then call upon African-American voters and all Democratic Party constituencies and supporters to withhold their support from a Hillary Clinton candidacy in November. We have survived eight years under President Bush and, if compelled to do so, we will survive four years under a President McCain. However, we cannot and will NOT survive the nullification of our most hard-won right - our votes.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

More "Hating" on Barack Obama

Barack Obama, Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Well, guess what, now Barack Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., is being dogged by ABC News.

As reported by Investigative reporters, The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope."

If you care, you can read the rest of the article here.

AAPP: Candidly, I could care less what Obama's former pastor says about America, in the context of Barack Obama's presidency. As I have said before, Barack Obama's former pastor is not running for the presidency.

at Politico.com are reporting on how Obama's church is accusing the media of character assassination.
Barack Obama

CHICAGO – The church attended by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) fought back Sunday against mounting criticism of its pastor, accusing the media of character assassination and “crucifixion.”

Otis Moss II, the current pastor of Trinity United Church, used his pulpit to defend his congregation and its past minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., from a wave of controversy stemming from inflammatory statements made by Wright.

"We have listened and watched as the wonderful work of our church has been vilified this week," he told about 3,000 congregants on Palm Sunday morning. "This week should be special for us because I guess we know a little something about crucifixion."

The church also released a statement that began: “Nearly three weeks before the 40th commemorative anniversary of the murder of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.’s character is being assassinated in the public sphere because he has preached a social gospel on behalf of oppressed women, children and men in America and around the globe.”

Trinity United, an 8,000-member church on the South side of Chicago, came under intense scrutiny over the past week for statements made by Wright that harshly criticized American society as racist and blamed U.S. leaders for the Sept. 11 attacks. Read More HERE

AAPP: So what do you think about this situation? Do you think Obama will weather this media storm? Don't you think it is time to keep it honest in 08' ?
